Mercer Street Residence

noho; new york, ny

This one-bed, one-bath apartment is located in a former factory building constructed in 1890. We brought significant natural light back into the space through eliminating a little-used mezzanine and uncovering the existing cast iron columns, exposing the apartment’s soaring fourteen foot tall ceilings throughout. The kitchen features an area of matte black cabinets and dark slate counters contrasted with a monolithic white marble island. The bathroom was enlarged to allow a full-size shower with cove lighting and a floating wood vanity with inset mirror. The bedroom closet was reconfigured with a pocket door to allow a discrete pass-through to the new bath. New clearcoat waxed white oak flooring was installed throughout. A continuous millwork bench with bookshelves below was built along the living room window wall to create a lounging/reading area.
