Hicks Street Renovation
brooklyn heights; brooklyn, ny
This one-bed, one-bath apartment is located in a historic 1935 co-op on one of Brooklyn Heights’ many beautiful tree-lined streets. The renovation required a complete re-imagining of its former pre-war glory, while maintaining and enhancing its unique raised kitchen from which the future owner could more easily cook and entertain. Dated curved arches, scalloped plaster moldings and a poor 1980’s millwork divider were removed to bring a new visual connection to the adjacent living room and encourage every bit of the limited available natural light to come through. In place of the former divider, we integrated a large dining table for six that both spans the height difference and added sorely needed additional work surface for food preparation. The bathroom and bedroom were updated with a soft palette of various off-whites and matte greys to reflect additional light and accented with dark grey and black finishes, such as the bath hexagon tile floor and kitchen pendants.
